Ride directly out of Sapa a small, mountain town in Lao Cai Province. You will be surrounded by towering mountains, including Fan Si Pan the country’s highest peak, green paddy fields and travel through ethnic tribal villages.

Day 1

.

Hanoi – Lao Cai

Pick up from your hotel in Hanoi, transfer to train station for an overnight train trip to Lao Cai

Day 2

Lao Cai – Sapa – 54km cycling

Biking route: Ban Vuoc – Muong Vi – Ta Giang Phinh – Ban Khoang – O Quy Ho – Sapa

Arrive to Lao Cai train station in the early morning, you will be picked up by your guide and driver. After having breakfast at a nearby restaurant you then have short transfer to Ban Vuoc to start biking. The single quiet road leads you to mountain with beautiful scenery of mountain landscape and rice valley. You will then pass Muong Vi Valley, home village of Day ethnic. Today’s cycling is mostly uphill on quiet road combined with some off the beaten track through villages, where you will encounter with local villagers or sharing the track with buffalos, ducks, chickens. The amazing view of Ta Giang Phinh valley offers you a chance to take some great picture and experience the culture of the Black H’mong ethnic.

Your lunch will be served on the way at a nice spot looking down to the valley. Continue the ride you will reach to the O Quy Ho summit of the day, from here you can easily descend to Sapa town.

Day 3

Explore Hidden Village & Muong Hoa Valley – 34km cycling

Biking route: Sapa town – Sa Pa – Hang Da – Y Linh Ho – Lao Chai – Ta Van – Topas Ecolodge

After a short ride out of town, you will arrive at a village of Black H’mong. The ride is soon leading you through the village with stunning view of rice terrace. The single steep track is a big challenge for conquest but compensated by the amazing view beyond, Muong Hoa Valley. Next ride downhill through Muong Hoa Valley – home to the largest rice valley in Sapa. Ride through the rice valley on the village track where you can stop for visit a local house and experience their culture. Leave the village, you will return to the main road for heading to Topas Ecolodge resort, along the way is the spectacular scenery of the valley and range of Fansipan mountain.

Day 4

Topas Ecolodge – Nam Cang – 45km cycling

Biking route: Thanh Kim – Ban Phung – Ta ThangDam – Thanh Phu – My Son – Nam Cang

Start the day cycling from the hotel on a quiet road via Ban Phung village. The area is getting more remote on the winding road along the mountainside. You will then descend the steep single track to Muong Bo River, the most challenging section of the day. Continue on a quiet road leading to the village of Tay ethnic at Thanh Phu where your lunch is prepared at a local house. The afternoon is a slight uphill ride to Nam Cang via My Son and Nam Sai village. You will have chance to visit a Xa Pho ethnic which belongs to one of the smallest ethnic group in Vietnam.

Arrive in Nam Cang in the late afternoon, it is great time for you to go swimming in the beautiful river located nearby your accommodation. Nam Cang is remote village of Red Dao ethnic who still own the rich traditional culture. Accompany with guide, you will explore the village and learn about the culture of making silver smith and writing paper.

Day 5

.Nam Cang – Ta Thang Valley 45km cycling

Biking route: Nam Cang – Nam Than – Nam Nhiu – Sin Chai – Suoi Thau – Ta Thang

Start your day with short cycle uphill to Nam Than village of Blue H’Mong with awesome view spreads out the valley. The continue ride is mostly along the mountainside on the dirt road via Nam Nhiu and Sin Chai village of Red Dao ethnic. Encounter with local villagers along the way, so you might get to understand more about the culture with mainly farming rice and raising animals. The Red Dao women are famous with making beautiful embroidery and shaving hair after getting married. The afternoon is a mix of dirt road and paved road along the mountainside where there is almost no traffic. Descend the hill with breathtaking valley views, you then will arrive at Ta Thang.

From here, you will take the support vehicle for a one hour transfer to Trung Do village and your overnight homestay. The village located in the small valley near Chay River, where you can take an excursion for visit the peaceful surroundings.

Biking route: Nam Cang – Nam Than – Nam Nhiu – Sin Chai – Suoi Thau – Ta Thang

Day 6

Ta Thang Valley – Muong Khuong – 70km cycling

Biking route: Nam Mon – Coc Ly – Cao Son – Lung Khau Nhin – Muong Khuong

After saying goodbye to the villagers, you will have short transfer to the mountain of Nam Mon for the start of today’s ride. The quiet downhill road with beautiful views offers you a great ride descending to the Chay River. You then ready for a big climbing to hit the steep road to Cao Son. In case you are tired from the climbing, you can get in the support bus. Your lunch is prepared at the local restaurant in Cao Son Village.

This afternoon is mostly downhill on amazing road which is combined with some small descending hill. The village is of Nung and Day along the roadside is great chance for you to stop for a visit. Mountain landscape and valley view spread out to the horizon until when you arrive to Muong Khuong – a small town located on the high mountain.

Check in to your hotel, and spend time to visit the town or enjoy some drinks for refreshment.

Day 7

.Muong Khuong – Lao Cai – Hanoi 50km cycling

Biking route: Muong Khuong – Ban Lau – Ban Phiet – Lao Cai

Today is the last day of cycling but no less interesting and challenging. You will start biking from Muong Khuong on the quiet road descending the mountain. You will ride along the border belt with China, pass by several ethnic villages such as Nung, H’mong which offers you a chance for visit and experience their culture. The green tea and pineapple farm along the road is a nice place for you to stop for photos and learn about how the locals cultivate their land. The ride is getting more flat when you arrive to Lao Cai, where you will take shower before hopping on the night train to Hanoi.

What's Included;

Two (or more) Qualified & Experienced Guides

We understand that everybody is different. Some riders will want to push hard, others will want to take in the views and learn about the surrounding area and cultures. All of our guides are selected not only for their fitness but also for their local knowledge. The passion for mountain biking, fun loving nature and local connections, that all our guides have, ensure that your adventure will be an incredible journey.

 
Sport Specific Nutrition

We know how important it is to remain properly fuelled during an arduous day in the saddle and so have teamed up with TorqFitness to provide all our adventures with a selection of energy products.For an additional $210, you can collect your Torq nutritional pack, of gels, bars, energy powder and recovery powder on location, saving you excess baggage charges and customs scrutiny. You will then only need to carry provisions for use during the day whilst the remainder will be transported by the support vehicles or porters.

Adventure Accommodation

The nature of your holiday is to have an adventure, but that doesn’t mean you have to rough it. For all of our adventures we use the best accommodation that is available in the area. All our hotels / guesthouses have been personally vetted, so whether it’s a 3* hotel in the city or a basic teahouse in the mountains you can rest assured you will be warm, comfortable and well fed.

Support

Each group will have at least 2 riding guides, that way if any riders want to push on and “race” the stage, the remainder of the group will still have an accompanying guide. Each group (where terrain allows) will also be closely accompanied by a support vehicle, carrying water, food, bike spares etc, with space to transport any rider to the hotel should the going get too tough. All our guides are mechanically adept and will be able to fix most bike problems out on the trail. There will also be a separate vehicle and guide to transport all the luggage and to ensure your hotel / guesthouse is ready for your arrival after a hard days riding.

Most Meals

Your detailed adventure information pack will list the exact meal arrangements but in general, all breakfasts and evening meals are included in the price of your trip. Most dietary requirements can be catered for, even in the remotest of areas, and as all trips are guided by experienced riders you can be assured of loaded plates of high carbohydrate quality food to fuel you through the day.

Transport

All in country transport costs related to the adventure are included in the trip cost.

Get Together

During the actual adventure most evenings will be spent dining as a group, but pre, and post adventure we arrange a social get-together so that everybody can get to know each other and the guides, and share their experiences.

The Finer Details

All our adventures follow the same itinerary / route as the races in our World Challenge Series ensuring that we have extensive, first hand and current knowledge of all the finer details relating to the area. The MTB-Worldwide team together with their in country partners, check out the trails, hotels, local transport on an annual basis so that all racers and adventurers alike can be assured of an ultra smooth passage during their time away.

Being avid mountain bikers, travellers and adventure enthusiasts ourselves, we know how important it is to be able to visualise your trip before arrival. All MTB-Adventures Holiday guests will be sent a detailed PDF trip specific information pack. This extensive document will arm riders will all the details they need to plan and prepare for their adventure, and will include a day to day itinerary, maps, photos, information relating to the country and much more.

Adventure Advisors

Our knowledgeable MTB-Worldwide team are always on hand via email or phone to answer any queries that you may have related to the adventure, during the booking process or after you have booked.

Regular Updates

We will keep you informed with regular updates from the adventure, and closer to departure, with specific details of the guides, hotels, meeting times etc. If you "opt in" we will also give you contact details of other riders joining the adventure so that you can start exchanging information and getting to know other riders before arrival.

Single Supplement

We aim to make all adventurers feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible. We offer single room supplements for any rider that prefers to have a room to themselves (prices vary on destination).

All our logistic teams also provide the support for our races and have a track proven record for customer service and safety. Compare Your Times

Via GPS data you will be able to compare your stage times with those of corresponding races and the top adventure timings will be featured in a MTB-Worldwide timings leader board on the website. Incentives – If after taking on a MTB-Worldwide Holiday, you feel like taking on one of the world challenge series races, we will give you a 10% discount of any of the race entry fees.

Hire Bikes

All the MTB-Worldwide team have flown to far flung destinations with their bikes, an know that it is not the most relaxing of procedures, from checking it in at one end to the nervous wait for it to arrive unscathed at the other. To make your MTB-Worldwide holiday even more stress free we have a range of high quality mountain bikes (nothing we wouldn’t ride ourselves) available to rent. Please enquire for prices.
