Ride the Himalaya and Sri Lanka with the people who know them best
Plenty of companies sell Nepal and Sri Lanka cycling tours. Far fewer can tell you which side of the Kali Gandaki the wind picks up after lunch, where the best dal bhat is in Tatopani, or exactly how cold it gets on the switchbacks below Thorong La at dawn. Or, in Sri Lanka, which quiet back roads skirt the traffic, when to tackle the tea country climbs before the afternoon heat, and where to stop for a king coconut on the south coast. That local knowledge is what separates a good trip from one you talk about for the rest of your life β and it’s what we’ve spent two decades building.
20 years in Nepal β and a connection that goes back further
Our founder, Phil Evans, first arrived in Nepal in 1990 and has been coming back ever since. For the last 20 years Multi Terrain Biking has run tours and events across the country β the Annapurna Circuit, Upper and Lower Mustang, and the quieter trails of the Himalayan Foothills.
That time on the ground means we know the routes in every season: where a landslide changed the trail last monsoon, which teahouses are worth the extra climb, and when to push on or stop for the night. It’s knowledge you can’t download.
A crew of Nepali champion riders
Our support team in Nepal is made up entirely of cyclists β and not just any cyclists. You’ll be riding alongside some of the strongest mountain bikers in the country, including national MTB champions. They know these trails because they race and train on them.
In practice, that means:
- Guides who ride, not just lead β they’ll help with line choice on rocky descents and pacing on long climbs.
- Mechanical know-how on the trail β a snapped chain at 4,000m gets sorted, not stressed over.
- Real cultural connection β village stops, local food and conversations you’d never get on a package tour.
- Jeep backup β vehicle support on the routes that need it, so you can ride hard and recover properly.
We don’t hire a local team for the season. We ride with friends we’ve known for years.
SriLankan Airlines’ official cycling logistics partner
In Sri Lanka, SriLankan Airlines trusts us to manage all of their cycle tour logistics. That’s a responsibility we take seriously β and it means our riders benefit from the same planning, partnerships and attention to detail.
From quiet coastal roads in the south to the tea country climbs of the hill country, our Sri Lanka routes are built around great riding and great places to stay. We run our own fleet of Genesis CDA 20 gravel bikes for hire, so you don’t have to fly yours halfway round the world unless you want to.
Small-group Nepal and Sri Lanka cycling tours, done properly
We cap our groups at eight riders. That keeps the atmosphere friendly, means our guides can look after everyone, and lets us use smaller lodges and trails that bigger operators can’t. If our fixed departure dates don’t suit, just get in touch β we regularly put together bespoke trips for private groups.
More than a holiday
We’ve been riding in Nepal and Sri Lanka long enough to care about what happens there after we leave. That’s why we also founded Helping Paws Worldwide, a UK-registered animal welfare charity working in both countries. When you ride with us, you’re supporting people who are genuinely invested in these places.
