#RideSriLanka – An Exciting 07 day cycling tour from Sri Lanka’s North to South!

Sri Lanka is not merely a paradise isle, but an island of paradises, with a diversity of landscapes, flora and fauna unmatched anywhere in the world. In fact, it is the only place in the world where you can see both the largest living land animal, and the largest animal in the world– the elephant and the blue whale, on the same day, within just a few kilometres of each other. Sri Lanka’s diversity of landscapes and wildlife makes it the ideal setting for ‘#RideSriLanka’ a cross country cycling tour organized by SriLankan Airlines.

What’s #RideSriLanka?

It’s a 07 day cycling tour through some of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landscapes and sites. The cycling tour will start in Jaffna at the very north of Sri Lanka and end in Galle at the very south of the island, giving participants the full Sri Lankan experience!

When’s It Happening?

The participants will arrive in Sri Lanka by the 20th to 21st of January 2023, and they will be taken to Jaffna. From there, on the 22nd morning they’ll set off an epic cycling tour of a lifetime, headed south.

Riders will aim to cover between 150 to 200km per day, arriving in the Southern Coastal Hub of Galle on the 29th of January, with a ride around the Capital, Colombo, planned for the 30th.

In addition to the 16 star cyclists, other riders, adventure athletes and an audience from all over the world are expected to join in the adventure of a lifetime, including from the UK, Europe, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Asia.

An Island of Paradises!

Sri Lanka is an island in the Indian Ocean, just 880km north of the equator and south west of the Bay of Bengal. At 65,610 km2, Sri Lanka is about 25% the size of the UK, with amazing tropical coastlines and beaches that give way to the Central Highlands, which rise over 2,500m above sea level, making for contrasting paradisical landscapes, perfect for exciting biking.

There are also 103 rivers in Sri Lanka, with the longest being 335km long, along with 51 natural waterfalls that are over 10m high, including the Bambarakanda Falls, which the riders will pass by.

The climatic conditions across Sri Lanka are equally diverse as its landscape, flora, fauna and people. From warm, humid coastal plains to chilly highlands that experience frosty days, a dry and arid north, and a wet zone in the south west that receives over 2,500mm of rain each year.

Whether you’re a beach lover, adventurer, sightseer, history buff (Sri Lanka had an advanced ancient civilization thousands of years ago, with grand ruins still visible today), foodie or anything else, Sri Lanka has what your soul is longing for!

Sri Lanka is not just one paradise but many, and a once in a lifetime experience that you’ll want to keep repeating. So, make your plans and escape to Lanka, and discover your kind of paradise and adventure, whatever that may be!
